learning
“Writing is God's way of telling you you don't know what you're talking about.”
– Paul JOHNSON • Interview at Fordham Investments Club
“If nobody read my blog post, I'm still Ok with that, because I got something out of this: an understanding.”
– Aswath DAMODARAN • Interview on Personable
Why do I write articles, micros, commentaries, etc.?
Why do anything – the first reason is for fun!
I don't have a massive audience, so my writing is mostly for myself, though I hope others will find it useful.
It's definitely helpful for learning and understanding concepts. Studies on learning show that Elaborative Interrogation (generating an explanation of a fact or concept) and Self-Explanation (where the student explains how new information is related to already-known information) help moderately with learning. Writing triggers me to perform both kinds of activities.
Additionally I sometimes share pieces of what I've written with others, to get their critical viewpoint. These critiques help me correct errors in my own knowledge or thought process.
Why do you write? Tell me in the comments!
