On-the-go e-Learning

On-the-go e-Learning#

People lead busy lives, often having to travel for work, study or family. Travelling – by walking, public transport or driving - consumes a lot of our time. This time could be put to valuable use in learning new skills, either for career opportunities, personal growth or just enjoyment.

There are a plethora of online eLearning platforms, such as Coursera, Udemy, Pluralsight, LinkedIn Learning and many more. However, these platforms are often designed for desktop use and may not be optimised for mobile devices, on-the-go learning.

For example, while travelling, people don't want to look at their screens. So learning should be decisively audio-focussed, with minimal visual contact or interaction required. Audio content should be delivered steadily and clearly, with lots of repetition, as people are often multitasking and frequently distracted while in motion. Also courses should be very easy to navigate, pause and resume, so that they can be consumed in short bursts (e.g. 5-10 minutes) and easily picked up again in the next travel period.

An app that delivers on-the-go eLearning could be a great way to make use of otherwise wasted time, and help people learn new skills and knowledge in a convenient and accessible way.

When prompted about the on-the-go eELearning idea, ChatGPT suggested some potential candidates:

However, these seemed to heavily biased toward beginner-level content and did not reveal much about the quality of the content or experience prior to purchasing.
